Meet Dr. Melo

I am a licensed clinical psychologist who treats adults in Bethesda, MD and Washington DC. I am also authorized to practice virtual psychotherapy in over 40 states. I provide trauma-informed psychotherapy and work collaboratively with clients to first understand what brings them to therapy and then together pave the road to healing.

Many people come to therapy feeling like what they’re experiencing is complicated. Anxiety may be mixed with older wounds. Sadness can show up in ways that don’t always make sense at first. Sometimes the struggles people bring to therapy are connected to deeper patterns or experiences that have been developing over many years.

My approach uses trauma-informed psychodynamic therapy that focuses on helping people gently untangle those layers. Together, we look not only at what’s happening right now, but also at the experiences and patterns that may be shaping how you feel, how you relate to others, and how you understand yourself.

Many people I work with have tried to handle things on their own for a long time before seeking therapy.

Everyone’s experience is unique, but there are some common patterns I often see in the people who come to work with me.

You might be a good fit if:

  • You’ve been trying to manage things on your own for a long time, even when it feels difficult internally
  • You often feel like you’re “white knuckling” your way through day-to-day life
  • Tasks like work, daily responsibilities, or caring for yourself can feel overwhelming
  • Relationships feel complicated, stressful, or hard to navigate, especially when it comes to communication or conflict
  • You struggle with loneliness or finding a sense of connection with others
  • You’ve lost touch with parts of your life that once felt meaningful or fulfilling
  • You sometimes feel disconnected from yourself or the world around you
  • Past experiences or trauma continue to affect you, even if they happened a long time ago
  • You have a desire to better understand yourself and make sense of your thoughts, emotions, and patterns

If you see yourself in any of these experiences, therapy can be a space to begin making sense of them at your own pace.

When you feel ready, you’re welcome to schedule a free 15-minute consultation so we can talk through what’s bringing you in and see if working together feels right.
